On QuickBooks desktop, how can I void and reissue a check?
How to Void a Check in QuickBooks ?
With QuickBooks, you might make mistakes like entering the wrong amount on a check or writing a check to the wrong individual. Then, before completing the transaction, use QuickBooks to void the check. But the amount of the voided check stays in the application’s registry. The canceled check’s number, payee, and date remain on the registry.
If the check hasn’t been cashed and wasn’t reconciled previously, you can void it as follows:
>Accounting is a good option to go with.
>Choosing Chart of Accounts.
>Choose View Register for the bank account where the void check was recorded.
>Find the desired check and click it.
>Then select Void from the More menu.
>Confirm Cancel this check, please. choosing Yes.
>For earlier reconciliations, undo the reconciliation and delete the transaction. Then you can rerun the reconciliation.
In QuickBooks, cancelling a check:
“Banking” then “Use Register” Select the checking account.
To nullify a check, click on the check number/entry.
Edit, then void check. To cancel the current check, click “Yes” when asked. This enters the voiding date in your company’s journal and cancels the check. Click “No” to simply void the check using the original date. A cancelled check is not updated in your company’s journal.
Click “Record” to finalize the void.
A Paper Check in QuickBooks:
Then select “Write Checks.” In the Expenses section, choose the account that wrote the cheque.
Enter the paper check number in the “Check Number” section. Fill in the “Date” field. In the “Pay to the Order of” field, put “0.00” and then a payee name.
“Edit” and “Void Check” to cancel the check. When asked if you wish to nullify the check for the current period, select “Yes”. This enters the void date in your company’s journal and cancels the check. Alternatively, click “No” to simply nullify the check using the original date. A canceled check does not update your company’s journal.
Click “Record” to close the gap.
Payroll Check Fraud:
Click “Payroll Center” if you use a third-party payroll service, or “Employees” if you do your payroll in QuickBooks.
If you utilize a payroll service, select “Related Payroll Activities” and then “Void Paychecks.” For non-payroll services, click “Void Paychecks”.
To specify the pay period, enter a date range in the “Show Paychecks From and Through” sections. To see the checks for that pay month, press “Tab”.
To void a paycheck, select it and click the “Void” button. Follow the onscreen prompts to confirm the void process. The amount on the check changes to zero and the word “Void” appears in the Memo field.
To close the Edit/Void panel, click “Done”.
